Alice, a reimagined adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s story, showcases B.DANCE founder Tsai Po- cheng’s breathtaking choreography, couched within a wonderfully-stylish stage design and heightened by the haute-couture costumes. A labyrinth of mirrors, projections, and black and white ink drawings frame the poetic movements that bring this fairy tale to life. Alice was first commissioned by the Luzerner Theater in Switzerland, and premiered at the National Taichung Theater, Taiwan, in 2021.
About
B.DANCE was founded in 2014 by choreographer and artistic director Tsai Po-Cheng, who was named one of the world’s most promising choreographers by German magazine tanz in both 2017 and 2018. The company’s style combines martial arts, other Asian movement traditions, and street dance with a contemporary kinetic vocabulary, and has showcased its work to captive audiences worldwide. Among its most successful pieces are Floating Flowers, which was a sold-out phenomenon during its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; RAGE, a resounding success at the Festival Off Avignon 2019; and the colorful and visually-stunning production Before We Say Goodbye, which which premiered in Taipei in 2021.
