《Dance a Dance From My Yellow Skin》
The Chinese diaspora identities of Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are explored in Dance a Dance From My Yellow Skin, a work by CHOU Shu-yi. All three places are multicultural hubs with a majority Chinese population. With this in mind, CHOU gathers dancers from the three locales for a performance that approaches the body as a repository of history. Where do you come from? Why did you come here? Why did you leave there? Where do you want to go? These questions of emigration and migration underpin the lives of all Singaporeans, Hong Kongers, and Taiwanese, and serve as a starting point for CHOU and company to ask what it means to be Chinese, particularly within a multicultural society.
