“Home Away From Home” is an installation- style performance about Vietnamese immigrant communities in Germany and Taiwan. To prepare, Lo Fang-Yun, in collaboration with Vietnamese choreographer Ngo Thanh Phuong and Taiwanese set designer Cheng Ting-Chen, embarked on a two- year research project, interviewing over one hundred people of Vietnamese descent living in Germany and Taiwan. For the performance, the audience is divided into small groups. They rove around the theater stage, meeting six Vietnamese performers who talk about their lives. What emerges is a complex mosaic of stories about the concept of home and identity, as well as a reflection of global labor migration and intercultural relationships.
About
Founded by Taiwanese director and choreographer Lo Fang-Yun, Polymer DMT is a group active in both Germany and Taiwan, with a particular interest in social and political issues and Asian-European exchanges. The group combines dance with documentary research, film and multimedia.
