《Pan Xian》

How can traditional performing arts thrive in the present and future? With this question in mind, Pan Xian explores the roles of historical memory, gender identity, and ritual in ancient Han Chinese opera and its associated Taoist ceremonies. The term “Pan Xian” refers to the standard opening section in Taiwan’s temple culture. Through the choreography of Huang Huai-te, founder of Dashing Theater, this ritual is re-examined with the aim of encouraging both artists and audiences to appreciate it from a new perspective. This approach offers a way to engage with traditional culture while reconsidering its broader significance.

闖劇場

Dashing Theater’s name is translated from the Chinese word “”Chuang,”” which evokes swiftness, impact and challenge. Founder HUANG Huai-te spent ten years working in the field before forming the ensemble, which aims to facilitate more audience participation in dance performances while offering a robust and supportive environment for new generations of artists. The group approaches its work with these questions in mind: How can dance connect more people? How can more attention be brought to social issues through dance?
