《Super》
Two prominent Taiwanese choreographer-dancers join together for SUPER, a performance prompted by the climate crisis, politics, and the general state of tumult and uncertainty of today’s world. Armed with everyday objects, video projections, and a bit of humor, LIN Yu-ju and TIEN Hsiao-tzu play with the extreme dualities and polarities of modern life. Think “Super” rich/poor; “Super” hot/cold; “Super” fast/slow; “Super” big/small. Through body movement and stage work, LIN and TIEN ask: Under these polarities, what becomes of our material world? What becomes of the natural world? What are the boundaries between the natural and unnatural? Who will hold influence in a future world?

LIN Yu-ju & TIEN Hsiao-tzu
LIN Yu-ju and TIEN Hsiao-tzu are Taiwan-based independent artists who began collaborating in 2022 for Cavadre Exquis: After 35 Years. The concept of this work later developed into SUPER, which premiered at Taipei Arts Festival in 2023. The duo’s artistic interests are aligned especially well for this production, which confronts the prospect of climate change and our polarized world. In her work, LIN Yu-ju emphasizes the environment, space, time, and the relationship between land and culture. The Hualian-born performer often incorporates collage, found objects, and historical imagery into her choreography to provoke new ways of thinking about human uniqueness and independence. TIEN Hsiao-tzu is interested in how human emotion is shaped, whether by time, culture, or environment. She regards choreography as a chisel to get to the most powerful emotions residing in the body, and to enable the fullest self-exploration possible.
